What is a transgender?
Transgender people are used to describe people whose gender expression is not consistent with their gender at birth. Gender expression means that they express their gender cognition through some external behaviors, such as clothing, hair style, behavior, voice and expression. If they think they are a man, then their external behavior will be the same as that of men. On the contrary, if they think they are women, their external characteristics will be the same as that of women. Gender identity refers to their cognition and feeling to men or women. Even if some people's assigned sex is male, this does not prevent their gender identity from being female.
Although the term "transgender" refers to the general designation of those people whose assigned sex and gender identity are inconsistent, with the deepening of people's understanding of transgender people, not everyone of this type is considered as a "transgender".
What’s the distinction between sex and gender?
Sex is given to everyone at birth and cannot be changed. It refers to the physiological state of men and women, which has nothing to do with the external environment. It is mainly determined by the chromosome and genes in our body. Gender refers to the role each of us plays in the society, including our behavior, speech and expression. Everyone's understanding of gender is not determined by nature, but formed by our constant acceptance of external stimulation and influence in real life, which can be changed. In different world cultures, the expression of sex is similar, but the expression of gender is indeed different in all aspects.
Do transgender people exist all the time?
Although transgender people are only known and accepted by more people now, it does not mean that transgender is only recently existed. In fact, from ancient times to now, some records about transgender people have been recorded in various cultures. It's just that in different cultures, they have different definitions of the transgender.
Why does transgender exist?
Just as in every culture, people have different definitions of the transgender, and there is no specific and accurate explanation for why the transgender people exist. This is mainly because there are great differences in the gender expression of all the transgender people, which hinders experts from giving a single explanation for the formation of the transgender people. Some experts will think that prenatal hormone levels and genes in the body, their life experience and so on are all the reasons for their gender identity changes. Just as everything has its meaning, we should respect every transgender.
